[The railway bridge,]
[] []
[] arching over []
[] rusting veins []
like the legendary
gateway to Hell.
Tracks diverge
and those green slugs
follow their calculated paths.
A hundred anonymous lives
rattle into the distance;
I wonder if their destinations
are as fated as the train’s.
This is a place I’d be willing to die;
dust and cold air pricking my eyes
as I stand and imagine
the stories of the people I can’t see,
a god to these invented characters,
towering over the twists in their lives.
I’d step out of these shoes
and leave them on the pavement
while I dived into empty infinity,
so the soles could tell my life story
and let people wonder
how those footsteps
led me here,
and whether there was
another path.

Another experiment. Nothing special. And I don't condone suicide, I think it's a jolly silly thing to do.
And I apologise about the lines not matching up, it's tricky to fix it with this editing system. Plus it works better with /s and \s making up the track but deviantart messes them up for some reason. And it won't let me centre align. Grr.
For a collaboration kindly organised by *damnedlostsoul - see [link] . The theme was shoes. Yeah, my mind works in odd ways.
There's a version more like I originally intended it to be here [link]

I've just looked at the proper version on All Poetry. The shape of it on dA is really different and messed up on my screen. When it doesn't look like that, the shape is very effective.
Why do they always leave their shoes?
