Lying on yielding grass,
My hands a pillow for my head,
The glowing blackness still,
The night cold and crisp and dead;
Silently, the show begins,
The stars applause unheard:
A brilliant incandescence
Flits through the sky like a bird.
Emerald whispers rush through the dark,
The whole of the heavens ablaze;
The beautiful jade fills my vision,
The night a glistening haze.
I could not compare the beauty,
Or hope to explain that sensation,
That boundless radiance,
That feeling of elation.
And it fills me with wonder to think
That this feeling of absolute awe
Was shared with a caveman who stared at the stars
A million years before.

'Kill!' shouted Ford. He shouted it at his towel.
The towel leapt up out of Harl's hands.
This was not because it had any motive force of its own, but because Harl was so startled at the idea that it might.
